This week I did child protection training. Not all week, just for two days. It was long enough.

The hardest part is always the photos of abuse – x rays being the worst I think. And some of the stories and case studies. As a front line worker working with young people, it is a necessary part of my job to complete the training.

Now I am a manager, I also get to check evidence for people’s CRB checks. It surprised me today to hear that the government are reducing the number of people who will have to under go checks, although I have not looked at the detail yet. I guess, if this is for occasional volunteers, it might be OK, particularly with pushing for a Big Society where people volunteer there time. Although surely we’ll need them to volunteer regularly if they are going to do my job?
