Spot the difference…

Although it is only a few weeks since started my new job, I have already noticed some differences in my life – mostly from the new 9 -5 working pattern that I haven’t had and talked about in this post.

Mornings

So with being a bit like ships that pass in the night, one thing that has never been an issue until these last few weeks is getting in the bathroom in the mornings. We now have to coordinate. And as I have to shave more regularly I take longer, or can’t have my long baths that I’m used to having. I also have to get up and go rather than get up and slob/ procrastinate/ play XBox until lunch time.

The thing that has surprised me is that I actually like it, I feel more focused. Fresher. And more awake.

Evenings

OMG. Evenings are a revelation. For the last 3 years whilst living in Wiltshire I’ve worked 3 evenings a week – and not just till 6.30 or so, but until 9.15 – 9.45, not getting home until after 10pm. I’ve met friends for dinner and drinks. I’ve done grocery shopping, cooked meals, joined a badminton club and been to a pilates class. It’s taking some getting used to, but I’m loving it…

Looking Forward

So, apart from the badminton & pilates, I’m looking forward to rediscovering my writing – both poetry and blogging, discovering more stuff in and around Chippenham, maybe having another stab at getting involved at politics (wanted – a party on the left that represents and fights for working people, apply within) and building the Unite local authority branch.

Of course, it goes without saying that I am very much looking forward to spending much more tome with my lovely wife, who has been very supportive of my career choices and my times of poor health, very patient and loving. She probably won’t read this though…
